Overview of the iSpring RCC7AK-UV
The iSpring RCC7AK-UV is a popular and highly-rated variation of the iSpring RCC7AK.
You get the same great system as the RCC7AK (which has a remineralization filter) with the addition of an Ultraviolet (UV) light filter. UV light sterilizes the water and kills the small percentage of viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms that could potentially remain in the water after the RO process. Most municipal water systems treat for microorganisms but well water and other natural sources can contain higher levels. Keep in mind that a UV filter requires a 110V power plug.
Water that has been purified by reverse osmosis can have a bland taste because it is slightly acidic and all of the dissolved minerals that provide flavor have been removed. The RCC7AK-UV adds safe minerals back into the water and raises the pH to be more alkaline. The result is a fresher tasting mineral water that many people prefer.
It is one of the higher capacity systems that we have reviewed since it produces 75 gallons of purified water per day through 7 stages of filtration.
The iSpring RCC7AK-UV wastes 3 gallons to produce a gallon of purified water, although this amount will vary depending on your feed water pressure. This is average compared to the other systems we recommend.
The system comes with everything that you need and is designed to be installed in about 1 hour by someone with basic DIY skills. Both a faucet and pressurized storage tank are included.
Filtration System Design
The RCC7AK-UV system has cartridge type filters that sit in a clear plastic filter holder. Although the filters are not as easy to change as modular filters such as those used on the Home Master systems (which just pull out and the new one pushes in), the iSpring system has a relatively simple and quick filter change.
To change the filters, simply loosen the housing with the plastic spanner wrench supplied with the system. Then unscrew by hand (there may be some water spilled at this stage) and take the old filter out. Push the new filter in place, apply some Vaseline to the “O” ring and screw in the housing. Finally tighten it up with the spanner.
The water efficiency of a RO system is measured in how much water is wasted to produce 1 gallon of purified drinking water. In some systems, as much as 4 gallons of water is wasted to produce 1 gallon of purified water. With the iSpring RCC7AK-UV, the wasted water is only 3 gallons for every gallon of clean water produced. The amount of waste water will vary depending on the pressure and temperature of the feed water but is about average across all of our suggested systems.
Ease of Installation
Before you start – this system is intended to work with a feed water pressure of between 40 and 80 psi. If the pressure is lower than 40 psi, a permeate pump is needed and if it’s above 80 psi, a pressure regulator should be used.
The whole RCC7AK-UV system is designed to be installed by anyone with basic DIY skills in about an hour. If you do not feel confident in installing the system yourself a plumber can do it for you.
The only potentially difficult part of the whole installation is drilling a hole in the sink top for the pure water faucet. This may not be necessary if a hole already exists for a hand sprayer, soap dispenser, or is available with a blank cover.
The installation and owner’s manual has recently been improved, but before starting it is worth taking a look at this installation video from iSpring. It takes you through all the stages step-by-step. Included in the video are demonstrations on how to change the filter cartridges and a few handy tips.
If you are familiar with push fit connectors, you should be aware that iSpring has chosen to supply locking connectors. These devices use a clip that needs to be removed before pushing the plastic pipes in place.

The iSpring RCC7AK-UV is packed with features and is an easy to install system that is highly praised in online reviews.
It is based on the VERY popular RCC7, but you also get a remineralization stage and a UV filter.
One area of concern was that the filters advertise a relatively short life when compared to competing systems. This shorter life is balanced out by the lower cost of the iSpring cartridges versus the competition.
For the features, reputation, and quality, the iSpring RCC7AK-UV is a highly recommended reverse osmosis system.
